About air release & air vent valves

Air trapped in a water main reduces its capacity, causes pressure surges and can make meters read incorrectly. Air valves are fitted at high points along a pipeline to let that air escape.

  • An air release valve lets out small pockets of air that collect while the line is under pressure.
  • An air vacuum combination valve also lets large volumes of air out while the main is filling, and lets air back in when pressure drops below atmospheric. GMC's datasheet describes this as protection against pipe damage or collapse.
  • An air vent valve (flange type) uses a float to vent air automatically.

Air Release & Air Vent Valves: FAQs

Where are air release valves installed?
At high points along a pipeline, at changes of gradient, and on long horizontal runs, where air naturally collects.
What does an air vacuum combination valve add?
Besides releasing small air pockets under pressure, it lets large volumes of air out while the line fills and lets air back in when the line drains or pressure drops, protecting the pipe from vacuum.
What is the price of a air valve in Pakistan?
The price depends on the size, pressure rating, body material, end connection, quantity and any testing or documents required, so GMC quotes each enquiry individually. Send the sizes, ratings and quantities through the quote form and GMC will reply with a written quotation.

Need help choosing?

Send your line conditions (medium, pressure, temperature, size) and GMC will recommend from the air release & air vent valves range.
